ABS participated as a Platinum Sponsor in the 54th Annual Joint Meeting of the American Society of Sugar Cane Technologists (ASSCT), one of the leading technical and networking events for the sugar industry in the United States.

Held in New Orleans, the event brought together sugar producers, engineers, suppliers, and industry professionals to exchange knowledge, discuss operational challenges, and explore new technologies and solutions for the sector.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the technical presentation delivered by José Ugalde: “From Assumed Loads to Measured Loads: A Methodology for Sugar Mill Drive Modernization Using Real-Time Torque Telemetry.”

The presentation explored a methodology for evaluating sugar mill drive systems using real-time torque telemetry, providing operators and engineers with valuable operational data to support modernization projects and make decisions based on actual operating conditions rather than assumptions.

In addition to participating in the technical program, ABS hosted the Opening Night Party, bringing together customers, partners, and industry professionals for an evening of networking and live entertainment before the start of the conference activities. The event provided an opportunity to strengthen industry relationships and reconnect with members of the sugar community from across the Americas.

Representing ABS at ASSCT 2026 were José Ugalde, Sophia Hall, Pablo Rodríguez, and ABS CEO, Alejandro Pardiñas.

Through ABS and its industrial brands, including ACB Custom Bearings, AEC Engineering Chains, and MGS Gears, the company supports sugar mills with engineering and power transmission solutions for critical applications throughout the production process. From cane preparation and milling to bagasse conveying, crystallization, and finished sugar handling, ABS helps customers improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and maximize operational efficiency.

ABS would like to thank the ASSCT organizers and all attendees for another successful edition of this important industry event. We look forward to continuing to support the sugar industry through engineering, maintenance, repair, supply chain, and custom manufacturing solutions for critical applications.
